And so it ends

Aberaeron 11 Tumble 25

Parc Drefach was the venue for celebration on Saturday evening, but unfortunately for Aberaeron it came from the visitors from Tumble as they crowned their season with the Division 3 West B championship. Needing a bonus point win to ensure success, they had to battle all the way against a determined home side and they only secured the point in the seventh minute of extra time, having been behind for most of the opening period. Aberaeron have endured a difficult campaign, but their lowly position is a sad reflection on some brave and promising performances .epitomised by no less that 10 losing bonus points. This was very much in evidence once again as early supremacy failed to bring home the spoils. It was the perfect start for the hosts as they subjected Tumble to heavy pressure and reward came the way of Rhydian Harries, crossing in the corner. Further opportunities came and went with Steffan Rees dictating matters at outside half in his first encounter, the third generation to play for the club. This was to allow Tumble more than hope and they duly capitalised initially with a penalty from Leighton McKenna, who followed up with a well worked try, and the advantage was extended when a loose ball found wing Ifan Davies to again cross in the corner. Early second half pressure again went with Aberaeron, with captain Aaron Lewis really leading by example and it allowed young Rees to reduce the lead with 2 penalties. With the result and the championship in the balance Tumble found new resolve and their third try from Marc Kinnard restored the advantage. With the clock ticking down a last gasp surge brought their fourth try, although the award was dubious with the ball seemingly held up. Nevertheless the victory ensures promotion for Tumble whilst Aberaeron can only look forward to lower league opposition next term.
