Revenge

LLANDYBIE 23 ABERAERON 27

Aberaeron finally gained revenge over Llandybie at the third attempt this season. Having narrowly lost the 2 league games, this was the opportunity for progress in the newly formed Div 3 C cup competition, and once again it was very much a close encounter with the Seagulls claiming the spoils in the final minutes. Aberaeron had dominated the early stages and had opened up a 17 point advantage at the break. There were tries for centre Lewis Donnelly and fullback Morgan Phillips, both converted by Rhodri Jenkins, with the outside half also adding a penalty.

Things looked even rosier minutes into the second half as a try of the season contender increased the lead. The move started in the visitors territory with Sean Stephens collecting poor ball and releasing the backline. Jenkins dummied to open up the defence, with the football transferred to Ollie Sawyer, Donnelly and Rhodri Thomas, who swiftly returned possession to Donnelly to scamper the remaining 15m to the try line. Having seemed in an unassailable position a mixture of relaxation and a revitalised home side saw a transformation in fortunes, and from being within sight of victory, a 2 converted try salvo coupled with 3 penalties reversed the advantage and Aberaeron suddenly found themselves 1 point adrift. With the clock ticking down, it needed a last gasp effort to avoid disappointment, and prop Owain Wozencraft claimed the all important score to give his side the victory. Always erring on the abrasive borderline, the hosts then lost 2 players, one yellow and red for indiscretion to compound their afternoon. Aberaeron will hope for much of the same when playing hosts to Bynea on Saturday.
