Aberaeron 25 Pontiets 7
In bright sunshine at Parc Drefach, Aberaeron duly gained sweet revenge against a dour Pontiets outfit who were eager to complete an unlikely double, having unexpectedly taken the spoils earlier in the season. However such was the determination for revenge from the hosts that the result was never really in doubt and if it were not for some lax refereeing, where the reluctance to clamp down on dubious interference was evident from the first whistle, the final scoreline would surely have shown a far more comfortable afternoon. As it was the bonus point win was the least that the performance deserved consolidating a 3rd position in the league. Early supremacy had brought fruition with a penalty from Rhodri Jenkins, the young standoff developing into a dependable stalwart. The first try soon followed as captain for the day Gethin Hughes emerged from a pile of bodies to register the score and it was another regular, Owain Wozencraft who was at hand to capitilise on another forward orientated surge to claim the second try. Despie playing with the wind advantage and supremacy the close margin still gave the visitors hope, and the opening quarter after the restart saw Pontiets enjoy their best period of the afternoon, and they gained increased optimism with a score by Ricky Guest and the converion by Aled Williams reducing the deficit to a single score. As it was, this turned out to be a false dawn as Aberaeron resumed control and returning captain Alex Danton crossed near the touchline following another of period of heavy pressue to extend the lead once more. It was then the case of the bonus point addition and once again the forwards paved the way with another well worked try, with the conversion by Jenkins avoiding any risk of an unlikely comeback attempt. With the bonus point comfortable the defence stood firm for the final minutes and revenge was complete. The final result however confims the potential in the ranks and with little at stake this term the performance merely serves to increase optimism for the next campaign.
