Wasps Swatted

Aberaeron 80 Llangwm 0

Its only been a couple of years since the introduction of Aberaeron's youth development system, but already its starting to show the benefit as a sprinkling of last year's squad played no little part in this victory over Llangwm. The Wasps may be at the foot of the table, but to their credit they battled gamely to the final whistle, and the margin of victory was achieved mainly through a ruthless and expansive display from the home side which thoroughly warmed the home contingent. In total there were 12 tries shared between 8 players. Aberaeron were quick off the mark as Tudur Jenkins touched down following a rolling maul, and this was soon followed as Rhodri Thomas skinned his opposite winger to cross in the corner. Fellow youngster Iwan Evans then benefited from his fellow backrowers for his first try in senior colours. Scores were coming at regular intervals and second row Dafydd Lloyd later named man of the match gained the first of his 2 tries. Now in the comfort zone, Abaeraeron then produced a brace of tries worthy of a higher stage as Dyfrig Dafis and wing Morgan Llewelyn crossed the whitewash, both resulting from enterprise along the backline. Centre Dafis gained his second soon after the break and wing Thomas was on hand to race clear also for his second of the afternoon. Llangwm did threaten on the odd occasion but the defensive line stood firm and service was soon resumed with scrum half Gareth James gaining the honours. Lloyd's busy afternoon got better as he raced clear to add to his tally, and centre Ollie Sawyer was finally rewarded for a composed display with his second of the season. Fittingly the final try went to Jenkins who had started the procession with his third of the campaign. In all the excitement a composed kicking display by outside half Rhodri Jenkins resulted in a further 20 points, with the majority of the conversions coming from wide out. Needless to say it was a happy home camp on Saturday night.
